Com instal·lar g4u en un pendrive.

Primer de tot cal un NetBSD, cosa que es resol rapidament gracies a VMware.

Partim de que ja tenim un NetBSD 5.0 funcionant.

Creem els directoris de treball i muntem la ISO.

# mkdir -p /mnt/iso
# mkdir -p /mnt/usb

Endollem el pendrive.
En funció dels discos conectats a la maquina sera un sd0, sd1 etc. Suposem que es sd0.

El segon pas es crear-li l'etiqueta bsd:

# disklabel -i -I sd0

El disk label et dira quina lletra li toca en funció de les particions que ja tingues.
La partició ha de ser en format 4.2BSD

Un cop creada l'etiqueta cal crear el filesystem en la partició (suposem la a).

# newfs /dev/rsd0a

muntem el pendrive:

# mount /dev/sd0a /mnt/usb

Copiem el contingut de la ISO al pendrive:

# cp -rv /mnt/iso /mnt/usb

un cop acabat nomes cal fer el bootstrap:

# installboot -v -o timeout=5 /dev/rsd0a /usr/mdec/bootxx_ffsv1

i voilà, ja tenim el g4u en un pendrive.

Howto to use an USB-Stick as a installmedium

Howto ben xulo de com fer servir un pendrive USB com mitja d'instal·lació. (originalment en alemany, després traduït a l'anglès ;-))

Heus aquí:

1: Esborrem el pendrive:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/da0 bs=1k count=1

2: Fem-lo "bootable"

bsdlabel -Bw da0 auto

3: Crear el FS UFS2 amb l'etiqueta GEOM “FreeBSD”

newfs -L FreeBSD /dev/da0a

4: Muntem l'imatge ISO:

mdconfig -a -t vnode -f 8.0-HEAD-20090609-JPSNAP-i386-dvd1 -u 0 && mount -r -t cd9660 /dev/md0 /mnt/iso

5: Muntem el pendrive

mount /dev/da0a /mnt/USB-Stick

Ara cal copiar tots els arxius del cd muntat al pendrive, després s'ha de crear el fstab:

vi /mnt/USB-Stick/etc/fstab

escrivim el següent:

/dev/ufs/FreeBSD / ufs ro 0 0

Guardar i ja podem arrencar desde l'USB

Truc ideal per arrencar NetBooks sense DVD...

Per actualitzar els ports de FreeBSD

Per actualitzar els ports:
portsnap fetch update
pkgdb -F
portsdb -Uu
portupgrade -a

Per actualitzar tot el sistema:


The freebsd-update(8) utility supports binary upgrades of i386 and amd64 systems running earlier FreeBSD releases. Systems running 7.[0123]-RELEASE, 8.0-RELEASE, 8.1-BETA1, or 8.1-RC[12] can upgrade as follows:
# freebsd-update upgrade -r 8.1-RELEASE
During this process, FreeBSD Update may ask the user to help by merging some configuration files or by confirming that the automatically performed merging was done correctly.
# freebsd-update install
The system must be rebooted with the newly installed kernel before continuing.
# shutdown -r now
After rebooting, freebsd-update needs to be run again to install the new userland components, and the system needs to be rebooted again:
# freebsd-update install
At this point, users of systems being upgraded from FreeBSD 7.3-RELEASE or earlier will be prompted by freebsd-update to rebuild all third-party applications (e.g., ports installed from the ports tree) due to updates in system libraries.
After updating installed third-party applications (and again, only if freebsd-update printed a message indicating that this was necessary), run freebsd-update again so that it can delete the old (no longer used) system libraries:
# freebsd-update install
Finally, reboot into 8.1-RELEASE:
# shutdown -r now

Resetejar un router Cisco

Si, ja se que esta a tot arreu i que es el procediment estàndard que qualsevol amb el CCNA hauria de saber de memòria...
Si ho fas amb un adaptador USB-serie de KeySpan des de un terminal screen, cal recordar que el control+break es crtl+a+b.
Després nomes cal posar confreg 0x2142 en el RMON i engegara sense llegir la configuració guardada a la flash.

FreeBSD Install VIM Editor Without X11 GUI

You can easily build VIM without X11 under FreeBSD. First, update your ports tree, using portsnap command, enter: # portsnap fetch update Install vim without X11, enter: # cd /usr/ports/editors/vim && make WITHOUT_X11=yes install clean

To avoid install all X11 dependencies when upgrade via portupgrade, add this to /etc/make.conf:

$ vi /etc/make.conf

.if ${.CURDIR:M*/editors/vim*}
NO_GUI=yes
.endif

Optional: vim configuration

Copy /usr/local/share/vim/vimXY/vimrc_example.vim to /usr/local/share/vimrc, enter: # cp /usr/local/share/vim/vim72/vimrc_example.vim /usr/local/share/vimrc
Create your ~/.vimrc file, enter: $ vi ~/.vimrc
Add customization:
set nocompatible
filetype on
filetype indent on
filetype plugin on
set laststatus=2
syntax on
Save and close the file. Set bash alias, enter: $ echo "alias vi='vim'" >> ~/.bashrc
Setup INPUTRC for bash, enter: # echo 'export INPUTRC=/usr/local/etc/inputrc' >> /etc/profile
Finally, create /usr/local/etc/inputrc, enter: # cat >> /usr/local/etc/inputrc

Create an updated OS X install

When reselling or gifting a pre-owned Mac, it's convenient to ship it without any accounts, but with all updates and legally-included packages. This is actually quite simple to do. This process uses a number of well-known techniques, which are listed in the order that they are executed. Boot the Mac's original or retail Leopard Install DVD (Hold the 'C' key during startup). When selecting the drive during the OS X install, click the Options button and set it to 'Erase and Install' for a clean install. Once the initial install is complete, reboot again to the Install Disk. After selecting the default language, immediately choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu. Set the password for the System Administrator (root) user and click the Save button. Quit out of Password Reset, and quit again out of the Installer to restart the Mac. Hold Command-S during restart to enter Single User Mode. Enter the following to turn off the Welcome sequence:
$ /sbin/fsck -fy
$ /sbin/mount -uw /
$ touch /private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone
$ exit
The Mac will now boot to the login window. Log in as root with the password previously set above. Setup the internet connection and run Software Update from the Apple menu. This will take two or three reboots before all updates are installed. If you're including iLife '09 and/or iWork '09, install them after the first update/reboot sequence, but before repeating the Software Update process. Keep repeating Software Update until it reports that there are no further updates. Now install any other included packages. If asked, select to install for All Users. Run and install any updates for each package. Don't bother configuring the Dock layout, since the user will end up with Apple's default Dock layout anyway. Avoid making any changes to System Preferences from the default settings. This will assure that the new user starts with a pristine system. After everything desired is installed and updated, launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and enter the following code to re-enable the default Welcome sequence.
rm /private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone
Quit Terminal and run Directory Utility, also located in the /Applications/Utilities folder. Select Disable Root User from the Edit menu. Insert the Leopard Install Disk, restart, and boot from the DVD one more time. Choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu again, but this time, select System Administrator (root) user and click the Reset button. Note: There will now be an iPhone (_usbmuxd) user. It should be ignored and left alone. Quit Reset Password and the Installer to restart. Hold the Mouse button to eject the Leopard Install DVD and verify that the Welcome movie plays. When the initial setup screen appears, enter Command-Q to shutdown the Mac. The Mac is now ready to ship! from macosxhints
